Steven P. Befera
Steven Paul Befera is a civil litigation attorney and Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator focusing on various practice areas, including construction litigation, serious personal injury, product liability, and premises liability matters. Mr. Befera is a Florida Bar Board Certified expert in Construction Law.
Steven received his Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in both Political Science and Communications (double major) from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where he was a member of the Debate Team and a Student Government Representative (College of Arts & Sciences). He received his Juris Doctor Degree with honors from the University of Miami School of Law.
Steven and his wife, Mayra Joli (Immigration Attorney) and their son, Ishmael, have been part of COTLF since 2004. Both Steven and Mayra are members of the Emmaus Ministry and serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. They also participate as a team in the Marriage Covenant Ministry. Steven also serves as a Lector, sings in the COTLF Choir (Schola Cantorum), and is a member of the local Coral Gables Knights of Columbus Council (#3274). Ishmael is an Altar Server and recently became trainer to serve as an Usher.
In leadership roles for the local legal community, Steven served as Editor-In-Chief of the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA) Bulletin from 1994-1996, being named Outstanding Committee Chair in 1996. He later served as President of the DCBA, the largest voluntary bar association in Florida, and in 2010, as President, Steven spearheaded efforts on behalf of the South Florida legal community to provide assistance to Haitian families in crisis in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake. Steven has been an Adjunct Professor of Civil Litigation Skills at the University of Miami School of Law since 1994 and is currently a member of the American Bar Association Human Rights Commission.
