The Schola Cantorum of the Church of the Little Flower is a group of dedicated men and women who volunteer their time in the name of their Catholic faith. The choir has sung for visiting Cardinals, Bishops and world consulates. In 1993, they were awarded the honor of singing an Easter service broadcast on national television as the principal choir.
The Schola Cantorum traveled to Italy in March 1996 on pilgrimage, where they sang for Sunday High Mass at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Their second pilgrimage in June 2006 took them to Ireland where they were asked to sing at the Basilica of Our Lady of Knock at the National Shrine of Ireland. In June of 2013 they are planning another pilgrimage including stops at Fatima in Portugal, Santiago de Compestela in Spain and St Andres Cathedral in Bordeaux.
In addition to sacred music, the Schola Cantorum often sings for weddings, dedications and special services. Members of the choir enjoy close friendships, some members having sung together for many years. Fundraising efforts that include concert performances, hosting and serving at dinners and sales, as well as other parish events, help defray travel costs. The Schola's work requires long rehearsal hours but also provides camaraderie and fellowship among this talented group of faithful singers.
